Reports from the Occupy Wall Street protests in NYC, and the Occupy movement around the country.
I am a 23-year-old reporter who is traveling across the country covering the Occupy Wall Street protests. In high school, I was backed by the Connecticut chapter of the ACLU in a freedom of speech controversy involving my work on the student newspaper. During my junior year of college, I was the editor of the Argus, Wesleyan University’s bi-weekly student newspaper. I have completed two reporting internships at the Hartford Courant — Connecticut’s largest newspaper — and for the past year I was the town government beat reporter for the Bar Harbor Times in Bar Harbor, Maine.
My investigation for the Hartford Courant, “Nursing Homes Draw Scrutiny,” was picked up by the Associated Press and non-profit investigative organ ProPublica, where it was placed alongside a USA Today piece and several New York Times stories as one of the day’s “investigations.” I also broke a story for the Argus about Wesleyan’s lawsuit against it’s own Chief Investment Officer that was consequently reported in the New York Times.
